Events in Moustique
The calendar follows the swamp.
Moustique’s gatherings are shaped by weather, water, fishing seasons, family traditions, and the old habits people here never quite stopped keeping. Some are loud. Some are quiet. A few feel older than the town itself.

Spring · Dusk into Night
The Lantern Walk Festival
Lanterns line the raised boardwalks, music carries over the blackwater, and families walk the wetlands together after sunset. What began as a practical tradition became one of Moustique’s oldest public gatherings.
- Lantern-lined paths
- Cajun and Creole music
- Marsh honey, biscuits, and handmade goods
- Slow guided walks through the wetlands
Lanterns stay lit until the final group returns.
Late Summer
Broussard Wetlands Harvest Week
A week built around what the marsh gives back: honey, herbs, fish, reeds, and stories. This is Moustique at its most communal.
- Marsh-honey tastings
- Cooking demonstrations
- Reed baskets and carved goods
- Evening story circles
- Wetland ecology talks
Select Weekends · Year-Round
Night Market Nights
The main dock fills with food, music, vendors, and lantern light reflecting across the water.
- Fried catfish and boudin
- Swamp-berry lemonade
- Hand-carved charms
- Woven goods
- Acoustic music
Fall · Before Sunrise to Sunset
Baptiste’s Bend Fishing Derby
A small-town fishing competition held along one of Moustique’s better-known bends. Families come early, boats idle close to the platforms, and the day ends with a communal fish fry.
- Early sign-up
- Local fishing platforms
- Guide advice
- Youth division
- Communal fish fry at sunset
Weigh-in closes before dark.

Fall · Daytime
Jefferson Ridge Heritage Day
Held near Jefferson House, this daytime gathering is the town’s most straightforward history event: food, exhibits, music, and the kind of local stories that change slightly depending on who is telling them.
- Local history displays
- Traditional cooking
- Marsh ecology talks
- Veranda music
- Sweet tea and baked goods
The house is older than most of the records explaining it.
